About Us
A.W.A.S Inc.The Albury Wodonga Artists Society was formed in 1987 by a small band of enthusiastic painters, the prominent member being Margaret Moran. The driving force was the need for companionship and shared experience in a common endeavour. It soon became evident that a home base or meeting place was needed.
For a couple of years we made do with the tearooms when not required under the grand stand of the Wodonga racetrack. Eventually a large airy room with adjacent car parking was found in the middle of Albury. The council was happy to rent it to us. This studio was named "The Paintbox". In February 2009 we moved to even bigger and better premises on the Lincoln Causeway as part of the Arts Precinct established by Wodonga Council. We now are situated on the river between Albury and Wodonga.
Three or four times a year workshops are held covering painting in oil, pastels and watercolour. The workshops are tutored by well-known Australian artists. Every month models come in for life drawing (the first Saturday) or portraiture (the third Saturday of the month). We have the usual committee form and send out monthly newsletters to all members.
Check the "CALENDAR" for day by day activities.
The membership at this time has increased from the origional 8 to 100 members.
The studio is available at all times for use by members
It is open to the public most days from at least 11-3, longer in summer months
A wide variety of art work on display at the studio is for sale
